On October 4th, the Northwest Ohio Manufacturing Alliance (NOMA), a program of the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce, hosted a vibrant Manufacturing Day event, showcasing the strength and innovation of the manufacturing sector in our region. Hundreds of students from Toledo Technology Academy of Engineering (TTA) and McKinley STEMM Academy had the opportunity to learn about the great manufacturing careers available right here in the Toledo Region. This annual event serves as a powerful platform to highlight the industry’s impact, foster collaboration, and inspire the next generation of manufacturers. |
This year’s Manufacturing Day brought together students, educators, industry professionals, and community leaders under one roof, all eager to explore, and share, the endless possibilities within the manufacturing field. The discussions aimed to inspire students to consider careers in manufacturing, showcasing the exciting and rewarding opportunities available in the field.
TPS Superintendent Romules Durant had words of encouragement for those students in attendance. “If you are a student here at TTA then the STEM field is for you,” Mr. Durant said. “There are currently 2,000 jobs in advanced manufacturing available now with an $80,000 income. Just remember to work hard and that no one should expect more out of you than you do of yourself.”
Interactive Exhibits and Demonstrations
Students had the opportunity to engage with a variety of interactive exhibits and demonstrations. More than a dozen local manufacturers showcased their latest technologies and innovative practices, allowing participants to witness firsthand the advancements transforming the industry. From automation and robotics to sustainable manufacturing practices, the displays highlighted how manufacturers are adapting to meet modern challenges.
“Now is the right time to highlight the impact manufacturing has on Ohio,” said Tamberlin Golden, plant executive director of global propulsion systems at General Motors. “Manufacturing is a vital part of the U.S. economy [and] a stable career for people from all educational backgrounds.”
As the event wrapped up, the overwhelming sentiment was one of optimism and enthusiasm. Manufacturing Day in Toledo not only celebrated the achievements of the industry but also reinforced the importance of collaboration between manufacturers, educational institutions, and the community.
The Northwest Ohio Manufacturing Alliance remains committed to supporting the growth and development of the manufacturing sector, not just on Manufacturing Day, but every day. By inspiring the next generation and fostering connections among industry leaders, we can ensure that Northwest Ohio continues to be a hub of innovation and excellence in manufacturing.
“There are 130,000 people who work in manufacturing in this region,” said Wendy Gramza, president and CEO of the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce. “This event today helps promote the opportunities available to you. I am excited for all of you. Really, anything is possible.”
For those who couldn’t attend this year’s Manufacturing Day, there are plenty of ways to get involved in future events and initiatives. Whether you’re a student, educator, or industry professional, your participation is vital in shaping the future of manufacturing in our region.
