| Eight Years of Stewardship, Strategy, and Impact This week, we’re proud to celebrate Tom Walsh, CFO, on his eight-year Chamber-versary. Since joining the Chamber in 2018, Tom has played a critical role in ensuring the financial strength and sustainability of the organization — providing the foundation that allows our team to connect, advocate, and deliver resources that help businesses solve challenges and maximize opportunities. |
Born and raised in Toledo, Tom has spent his life in the region he now helps strengthen professionally. That deep local connection shapes the pride and responsibility he brings to his work every day.
“I’ve lived here all my life. I think that it is a great place to live,” Tom says. “The opportunity to join a team working to positively impact the region was very appealing to me.”
During his time at TRCC, Tom has overseen significant operational advancements behind the scenes.
“We have replaced all our financial software systems, gaining increased automation and extensive use of AI,” he explains. “It saves on transaction processing time and allows for more planning and analysis.”
As the Chamber’s grant work has expanded — supporting workforce development, small business growth, and regional initiatives — Tom’s role has evolved to include increased oversight of compliance and grant financial planning.
The result? Stronger accountability. Greater sustainability. More capacity to deliver impact.
Why Financial Stewardship Matters
For Tom, financial leadership is about far more than numbers.
“It ensures that the Chamber has the resources that it needs to do the important work for the community, now and in the future,” he says. “It is second only to people in importance.”
Behind every program launch, advocacy effort, signature event, and small business success story is careful planning, preparation, communication, and teamwork — the operational pillars Tom emphasizes as essential.
Where Business, Education, and Government Intersect
What makes the Chamber unique?
“What happens here likely happens no other place in the region,” Tom says. “Business, education, and government all intersect here to work on improving the region.”
Lessons Learned: Change Is Constant
After eight years, one lesson stands out:
“Change is constant. It sounds like a cliché, but you really see it when you’re here for any length of time.”
Optimism for Toledo’s Future
Tom sees tremendous opportunity ahead for the region he proudly calls home. His optimism reflects the Chamber’s broader confidence in the region’s momentum and long-term trajectory.
“It has great potential. The new bridge to Canada and a direct route to Columbus will add to the many strengths that it already has.”
Favorite Toledo spot: UT on game day
Favorite local restaurant or coffee shop: Starbucks — it’s right downstairs
One word to describe the Chamber: Impactful
Weekend plans usually include: Athletic events, golf, concerts, plays, or getting out on the water
A Final Reflection
“I’m proud to say that I’m from Toledo, and proud to say that I’m part of a team here at the Chamber that has been doing great work for the region long before I joined and will continue doing so long after I leave.”
Please join us in congratulating Tom on his Chamber-versary — and thanking him for helping power the Chamber’s impact behind the scenes.
