I have lived in Toledo most of my life. Prior to the start of my sophomore year of high school, I moved to Millbury, Ohio and graduated from Lake High School. In my mid-twenties I moved back to Toledo, and I studied business administration and finance at Lourdes in Sylvania. Over the course of the last twenty-four years, I have worked for several wonderful local manufacturing companies in various accounting roles with increasing responsibility. Six years ago, my family moved to Ida, Michigan, where I live with my husband of twenty-one years, and my two sons.
What brought you to the Chamber?
I was looking to broaden my experience in accounting and finance this year. My background is primarily manufacturing accounting, so when I learned about the open controller position at the Chamber, I knew it would be a wonderful opportunity for me to venture into a new direction with a non-profit organization. The opportunity is twofold: getting to experience something new, while helping to strengthen an organization that focuses on the needs of the community.
What do you hope to accomplish in your role at the Chamber?
While the Chamber already has some phenomenal operations in place, I hope my individual experience will continue to strengthen the internal accounting controls and procedures and provide the organization room for continued growth.
What do you look forward to doing in your role?
I am looking forward to learning more about the Chamber in general, and about what all my Chamber teammates do in their roles, especially the folks that get to work with our members. Understanding how we all fit together to serve the needs of our members and understanding what it takes to accomplish that is vital to the health of the organization, in my opinion.
What is your proudest career achievement?
Being able to balance a full-time accounting job, and a full-time college schedule, all while being in my third trimester of pregnancy is at the top of the list for me. I gave birth to my first child two weeks after I finished my last semester to earn my bachelor’s degree. Once I caught my breath, I realized what I had just accomplished and had to give myself a pat on the back.
And now to get a little more personal...
Tell us a fun fact about yourself.
My father taught me how to play the drums by ear when I was 10 years old. I also learned to play the violin around the same time and went on to play with my school orchestra until early high school.
What is your favorite book or movie?
My favorite book is The Outsiders, and my favorite movie is Shawshank Redemption.
What is your favorite meal or food?
My favorite meal is beef tenderloin, and green salad with homemade croutons and homemade ranch dressing. I also love BBQ so you will often hear of me spending time on the weekends cooking something on my smoker. My family and friends often encourage me to write a cookbook or audition for a cooking show😊
Tell us about some of your favorite hobbies or things you are passionate about.
I really enjoy golfing. I am lucky to live in a household of golfers, so it is very easy to find someone to golf with. My family also enjoys vacationing in northern Michigan, so we come across some great golf courses when we travel.
