Redesigned & Refocused: The Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Institute for Leadership & Advocacy Evolves to Meet Today’s Challenges

For over two decades, the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Institute for Leadership & Advocacy (Institute) has equipped emerging leaders across the region with the tools to succeed in public service and beyond. But as our business and political environments continue to shift, so must the way we prepare tomorrow’s leaders.

That’s why, for 2025, the Institute is undergoing a major transformation—one that reflects the real-world demands of leadership today and offers a more flexible, focused, and impactful experience for participants.
A New Format Built for Today’s Leaders
This year, the Institute has been restructured into a two-day format in October, with each day offering a unique training track tailored to different goals:
  • Day One delivers foundational leadership and civic education for those looking to grow in their current roles or better understand the public-policy landscape.
  • Day Two focuses squarely on those ready to take the leap into public office, guiding future candidates through the real-world process of running and leading.
Participants can choose either day—or both—depending on their professional aspirations, making this the most customizable and participant-focused version of the program to date.

Why the Redesign Matters
Leadership is no longer one-size-fits-all. Whether you’re a rising business professional, a nonprofit leader, or a future candidate for public office, the new Institute meets you where you are.

On Day One, participants will sharpen their leadership style, explore the basics of hosting effective public meetings, and gain insights into regional development and policy-making—all led by industry leaders with proven success in their fields. These trainings provide a transferable skillset for virtually any career path in public or private sectors.

On Day Two, those curious—or committed—to running for office will benefit from a step-by-step roadmap to candidacy, covering everything from filing petitions and launching campaigns to building public trust and navigating the responsibilities of holding elected office. In today’s climate, where the stakes are high and the learning curve is steep, this kind of practical political preparation is more valuable than ever.

A Program That Builds Real Leaders
With over 500 alumni since its launch in 2001, the Institute has a legacy of impact. Graduates have gone on to become mayors, councilmembers, state legislators, and executive leaders within their industries.

As alumna Rosanna Hoelzle, Chief of Staff at the Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments, put it: “The Institute provided a unique blend of leadership development and insights into public service. It expands your understanding of complex issues and equips you to become a more effective leader.”

The redesigned and refocused Institute for Leadership & Advocacy is even better positioned to support the next wave of changemakers in our region.

Be Part of the 2025 Cohort
Whether you’re looking to grow as a leader, take on a new public role, or simply understand how to make a bigger impact, the Institute for Leadership & Advocacy offers the guidance, connections, and confidence you need.
Registration is now open—and spots are limited. Choose one or both days based on your goals and secure your place in the 2025 cohort.
