Tell us about your career path that led you to where you are today.
My career path has been anything but a straight line. My work experience spans 30 years in various procurement roles within supply chain and logistics—none of which have anything to do with fun or entertainment! Working from home for two years and reaching a certain age made me realize it was time to start living purposefully and with passion. I decided it was time to do something that brought me and others joy.
What were some of the barriers or obstacles you’ve faced, and how did you overcome them?
Any barriers or challenges I’ve faced have centered around being a new business owner and learning the intricacies of entrepreneurship. From the beginning, I have reached out to local organizations and other business owners for advice and guidance.
Who inspired you to become a leader, and why?
My parents are my role models. For starters, they are just salt-of-the-earth, wonderful, good-hearted people. Secondly, as empty nesters, they invested in themselves and my mom’s dream of owning her own salon. They successfully ran her salon for 17 years. Their path has always stayed with me, reminding me that it is never too late to start something new.
What advice do you have for women looking to grow either their own business or within the company they work for?
Find your tribe, don’t give up, don’t overanalyze, and remember that sometimes rejection just means there’s a bigger, better opportunity waiting for you somewhere else. Keep going!
How do you balance your career, personal life, and passions?
I’m still figuring this one out! Being an entrepreneur is incredibly rewarding, but maintaining balance is essential to avoid burnout. I make it a priority to schedule time for friends, family, fun, and self-care—having those moments to look forward to helps keep me energized and inspired.
What specific strategies or resources do you believe would help women develop or enhance their leadership skills?
As women, we should be encouraging each other—and our daughters and nieces—to step into leadership roles sooner and in a variety of ways. Network, find your tribe of like-minded women, try new things, and discover your passion. When you’re passionate, it’s so much easier to take the reins and run with it—whatever "it" may be.
What upcoming TRCC event are you most looking forward to attending?
I am looking forward to the Clambake this summer!
