COSE Health and Wellness Trust (MEWA)

The Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce and Medical Mutual have worked together since 1991 to offer small businesses in our region access to high quality health care benefits. Three years ago we partnered with COSE (Council of Smaller Enterprises) to offer a new type of health insurance coverage, the multiple employer welfare arrangement or MEWA.

Today the COSE MEWA covers over 7,500 small businesses, making it one of the largest MEWA’s in the country and the largest in Ohio. There is strength and security in these numbers. The MEWA allows employers to join their contributions and share risk. A larger pool means greater rate stability, plus there is stop-loss coverage to provide additional protection from large financial losses.

Numerous plan options are available, including traditional copay plans and high deductible plans. Prescription drug benefits come with all plans, as well as a suite of wellness programs designed to promote healthy behaviors. There is also the potential for cost-savings because self-funded plans are not subject to some ACA-mandated taxes, fees and benefits, and good health can be reflected in lower premiums.

Coverage is available for businesses with 50 or fewer employees, including businesses of one. All plans are backed by a provider network of doctors and hospitals you already know, and supported by Medical Mutual’s loyal customer care team.

More Great Reasons to Choose the Toledo Chamber's COSE MEWA

Attract & Retain Talent

A robust benefit package can help attract and retain the best talent for your job. Replacing an employee can mean weeks of lost productivity and cost thousands of dollars. That's reason enough to make sure your most valuable employees are 100% satisfied with their job and their compensation package.

Tax Savings

Offering health insurance benefits can help you actually save money in a couple of ways. Employers and employees pay less for health insurance when it is purchased at a group level because it is paid for with pre-tax dollars. And when you or your employees contribute to premiums, health savings accounts (HSAs) and/or health reimbursement accounts (HRAs), there are even more tax benefits available. Consult with your accountant for more details.

Network Access

Your employees have enough on their minds these days without worrying about changing doctors. Group health plans often have access to large networks of doctors and hospitals compared to an individual plan on the public exchange. This is really important for employees who have already established care with certain caregivers and don’t want to lose these relationships through a smaller network.

A Broker Can Help

As a small business owner, you wear many hats. Spend more time managing your business and less time managing your benefits. A broker can guide you through the process and help you find the best health plan for you and your employees. If you don’t have a broker, Medical Mutual can help you find a reputable one through their broker network.

One-Stop Shopping

Dental, vision, group life, accidental death and dismemberment insurance and short-term disability can be added to your health insurance plan. You can also purchase these products independently. Consult with your broker for all the details.

More Benefits Available

In addition to health insurance, Chamber members can take advantage of savings on electricity and natural gas, office supplies, workers comp and more.
