As you may have seen, Governor Mike DeWine yesterday announced recommendations for improvements to U.S. 23 in Delaware County. These improvements are designed to improve safety and traffic flow in the Delaware area - a critical part of the two-pronged solution that we have been advocating to be implemented. That two-pronged solution is 1) address the degradation that has been allowed to happen that has impeded the flow of traffic and 2) establish a free-flow connection between northwest and central Ohio. A copy of the recommendations is here. These recommendations will be subject to public comment and modifications to this plan may take place. Even with the proposed changes, there will likely be seven traffic lights on U.S. 23. While this is better - Cleveland, Akron, Canton, Youngstown, Dayton, and Cincinnati have a combined zero traffic lights as part of their connection. |
This is a good first-step, however we must continue to maintain our collective voice for a true free-flow connection to central Ohio.

Are you someone who spots a corner turned up on a mat at a restaurant and straightens it out? If so, you are one of my people. During the month of June, we celebrate National Safety Month. It’s a great time to recognize the men and women who devote their lives to keeping people safe. One such individual is Julie Reynolds of the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation; she is a tremendous advocate of safety & hygiene in the workplace. Another safety hero of mine is Bob Momany, President of the Safety Council of Northwest Ohio who is a flowing fountain of safety training and knowledge. A great lesson was learned from Bryan Johnson of Miami Industrial Trucks at the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce Annual Safety Conference held recently in April. Bryan asked “who has the right-of-way at a pedestrian crosswalk? Is it the pedestrian or the vehicle that is approaching the crossing?” We, of course, all answered “the pedestrian” which is how the rules are written. But does “right-of-way” mean anything to the oncoming truck that doesn’t see the pedestrian who is looking down at his phone? Keen awareness of your surroundings cannot be understated as a measure of safety!
Employee expectations are also changing. According to a Microsoft survey, 55% of employees believe learning requires leaving. Additionally, 76% say they would stay longer with their current employer if they could benefit from more learning and development support.
Recognizing this imperative, the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce has taken proactive steps to help members leverage learning to improve business performance.
That is why the Chamber coordinates the Northwest Ohio Military Affairs Committee to assist our units and nearly 2,000 service members in the region. The Committee brings together unit leaders, service providers, and business leaders to identify opportunities for growth and support.
April is Second Chance Month: An Opportunity to Tap into Hidden Talent with Fair Chance Hiring4/9/2024
REDI is focused on working with employers to make them aware of the opportunities and resources available to them, and why second chance hiring might be right for their company. Hiring individuals with criminal backgrounds may not be right for every business, but it might be the right answer for some, including yours.
