Local entrepreneur Fred Treuhaft is a lifelong resident of NW Ohio. When he retired from Plante Moran, a major regional accounting, consulting and wealth management firm on June 30, 2016, he knew he wasn’t finished making an impact on the business climate of NW Ohio. Taking not even a day off to celebrate his retirement, he got back to his entrepreneur roots and opened Treu Advisors, located in the offices of North Design.

Pete and Sue founded Tadmore Transportation with more than 20 years of freight experience, including warehouse supervising, truck driving, and shipping. The company was officially launched on Tadmore Drive in East Toledo; where the river, an expressway, and a former railway all meet. According to their website, “The name reflects our love of the transportation industry, the people who came before us, and the Toledo neighborhood. We are honored to give our carriers and customers a “tad-more.” They value 24/7 reliable communication, which allows them to work when their clients are working.

In 2016, Jordan Elliott and Marcia Elliott bought the franchise licenses for Sport Clips Haircuts in the Toledo region making them the first mother and son Sport Clips franchisees. Jordan became interested in franchises while he was a student at the University of Cincinnati, where he graduated with a degree in entrepreneurship. Marcia, who is recently retired, has a background with over 35 years of nursing. She also worked assisting HR and other various entities in the family business, which was one of the largest  polyurethane foam manufacturing companies in the US.  Since Jordan and Marcia are from Lima, Ohio,  they were excited to learn  Toledo was an open area for Sport Clips and they were able to obtain the license for the Northwest Ohio region.  With Toledo being a sports minded community, they believe Sport Clips will be a perfect fit.  There are plans to expand with 3-4 stores in the Toledo area.  Each store will employ 10-12 employees (stylists).  The first store opened on April 18, 2017, in Westgate Shopping Center on the corner of W. Cental and Secor Rd.

At a recent Sylvania Schools Career Tech stakeholders meeting, students shared their experiences in the program. Julie Sanford, the Assistant Director for Teaching & Learning, shared many of the programs and accomplishments with stakeholders.
