Dr. Cooper is a member of several Regional and National societies. He is the President of the Ohio Chapter of the American College of Cardiology and resides on the Board of Governors of the National American College of Cardiology. Other honors include “Best Doctors in America” issued by Best Doctors in America, Midwest and “America’s Top Doctors” issued by Castle Connolly. Among service to committees, clinics, and administration, Dr. Cooper also mentors medical and Ph.D. students in research. Currently he serves as Principal Investigator, and director for the Clinical Coordinating Center of the NIH funded CORAL Trial with grant funding of over $2.3M. This study is an international, multi-center pivotal clinical trial that compares medical therapy alone against medical therapy with stenting for renal artery stenosis. Dr. Cooper serves as a reviewer for a number of cardiology, vascular, and nephrology journals as well as on the editorial staff of several journals (Vascular Medicine and Vascular Disease Management). He has 61 publications in peer-reviewed journals and 6 book chapters. His research interest focuses on ischemic renal disease. Clinically he is an interventional cardiologist that helped pioneer the transradial method for cardiac catheterization, has performed and published extensively on renal artery stenting, and has considerable experience in the management of resistant hypertension.
