We are excited to welcome MassMutual Ohio to our EPIC Toledo Corporate membership. The host of our Morning Member Mixer on April 28, MassMutual Ohio is committed to our region and they share EPIC Toledo’s vision of engaging people and inspiring change. Our staff had a chance to get an inside look at their company culture, and wanted to share it with you!

MassMutual by the Numbers:
15 = # of Employees in the Maumee Office Under Age 30
50 + = # of local and national charities supported
62 = # of years since the Maumee firm was founded
120 = # of years MassMutual has been in Ohio

“The best thing about working for MassMutual in Toledo is CULTURE! Having the freedom to design your own job and being empowered to spend time and energy on the aspects that each individual finds most important and satisfying.”
Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce (TRCC): At the Morning Member Mixer tomorrow, you will be giving a short presentation to our members about being selected the 2016 World’s Most Ethical Company. Tell us a little about that.

MassMutual (MM): This year marks the tenth anniversary of Ethisphere and the World's Most Ethical Companies designation which recognizes those companies who align principle with action, work tirelessly to make trust part of their corporate DNA, and in doing so, shape future industry standards by introducing tomorrow's best practices today.

Roger Crandall, Chairman, President and CEO stated, "I'm extremely pleased that, once again, MassMutual has been honored as a World's Most Ethical Company.  Ethics and integrity are not only fundamental to our company's culture, they're core to how we run our business and top-of-mind in everything we do. Every day, our policy owners and customers trust us to help provide them with financial security and peace of mind. This is a trust hard-earned from nearly 165 years of being there when they've needed us most, helping people secure their future and protect the ones they love."

TRCC: Clearly MassMutual is all about establishing trust within the community. What sorts of things do you get involved with in the Toledo community?

MM: Local residents and businesses rely on us to help secure their financial futures, but our commitment doesn’t end there. We believe that in order to build long-lasting relationships with our clients, we also have to serve the local communities in which we live and work.

Our community involvement through charitable organizations and civic events is deeply important to us and our time and resources invested are additional reasons we’ve earned trust from so many in this area.

We support over 50 local and national charities, through hands on service, board appointments and fundraising. MassMutual also has a corporate matching gift that our employees routinely utilize to the tune of over 1.5 million in matching gifts.  We support the communities we serve and work in through charitable contributions and leadership. One of the ways we do this is through LifeBridge, a unique free life insurance program that helps children of income-eligible families pay for their education expenses if their insured parent or guardian passes away during the term of the policy. It’s designed to help parents protect their dream of providing an education for their children — even if they can’t be there to provide for them.  We’re proud of the positive impact LifeBridge has on the lives of participating families. We have also given out over 300 scholarships and internships through our Career Pathways program.  MassMutual has given more than 11 million in charitable contributions.

TRCC: Tell us something interesting that people may not know about a day in the life as an employee of MassMutual.

MM: Our advisors are truly financial coaches. We educate and implement solutions for all areas of individual and business' financial health. This includes planning, savings, tax strategy, investments, risk management and wealth distribution. MassMutual is client centric and can brokerage any insurance and investments not just MassMutual solutions. This means we can ALWAYS put our clients first. We are a mutually owned company, our policy holders own us and we pay dividends to them. We will pay out 1.7 billion in dividends in 2016 to our participating policy holders.
