Fowl & Fodder: New Member Spotlight and Grand Opening

Fowl & Fodder isn’t your average restaurant, and that’s because they aren’t using average ingredients. What makes them different? Produce grown with organic practices, grass-fed beef, pastured livestock, farm fresh eggs, artisan cheese and in-house baked bread all sourced from local farms right here in Northwest Ohio.

Fowl & Fodder features a scratch made, seasonal menu along with a cold-pressed, organic juice bar. They strive to deliver farm to table service utilizing the best ingredients Ohio has to offer. Their fast casual concept makes healthy, gourmet fare easily accessible to everyone in the Toledo area.

Fowl & Fodder’s first ingredient to success is its founder, Chef Scott Bowman. Scott’s 14 years of experience in the food service industry gave him the expertise he needed to open his own restaurant in July of 2014. Scott wanted to begin a new adventure by creating a restaurant where he could combine his dual passions for art and food. In order to make that dream a reality, Scott familiarized himself with a crowd-funding website called Kickstarter. Not only did this platform help him raise the funds he needed to get the restaurant off the ground, but it also included future guests by having them “back” the concept. The initial funds were raised and Fowl & Fodder was born. Located off Central Avenue (7408 W Central Avenue, Toledo) by the Meijer shopping center, Fowl & Fodder has been dishing up real food, from real farms, for people who know the difference ever since.

After operating over the past three years, garnering a faithful following, and winning many Toledo City Paper Dining Awards (Best Breakfast in Toledo, Best Organic Menu, Best Smoothies, Best Fast Casual Eatery, Best Gluten Free Menu, Best Secret Menu Item, and Best Use of Local Food), Fowl & Fodder is onto its next chapter.

Scott’s second ingredient to success has been his mantra of supporting local. It only made sense when Scott decided to start exploring a second location for Fowl & Fodder, that he would join the resurgence of supporting the revival in downtown Toledo. It also made sense that he would find a local investor for his second location and not one from the outside.

Alicia Wagner was a regular at Fowl & Fodder after her daughter was born with food allergies. She was able to clean up and control choices in her own home after learning chemicals in food were the likely culprit, however, she found it extremely difficult to eat clean outside of her home in the Toledo area. That is, until she heard of Fowl & Fodder. Alicia got to know Scott, the brand, the food, the mission and along the way partnered to help bring Fowl & Fodder to downtown Toledo.

Fowl & Fodder’s second location is at 614 Adams Street. Most recently operating as Weekdays, this two-story, 3,000 square foot historic building was constructed in 1887. Fowl & Fodder, in partnership with their building owner, Crane Development, were able to take advantage of the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority’s Better Buildings Program, allowing for HVAC and plumbing fixture upgrades as well as improvements to the building envelope and facade.

The 130 year old downtown building has served a variety of uses throughout Toledo’s history. Some of these include a grocery store, bookstore and various restaurants. Fowl & Fodder’s new location is next door to Bleak House Coffee and just steps away from ProMedica’s new headquarters, One Seagate, One Government Center, LaSalle Apartments, Huntington Center and the historic Valentine Theater.

Fowl & Fodder’s grand opening is set for Monday, October 30th, from 8am-4pm. Their regular downtown hours of operation are 6:30am - 4pm, Monday - Friday and Saturday/Sunday 8am - 4pm. Not only did they completely renovate their building, but they are blowing up the way downtown Toledo does brunch. You can expect award winning breakfast all weekend long, beer brunch, cold-pressed signature cocktails served with local spirits, and their crowd favorite (served all day) chicken and waffles.

If you work, live, play or visit downtown, there are five ways to get your Fowl & Fodder fix; dine-in, download the app (search Fowl & Fodder in your app store), order online at www.fowlandfodder.com, pick your order up curbside, or get it catered in.

Fowl & Fodder couldn't be more excited about heading down to 614 Adams Street and offering up their creative menu options along with nutrient dense, cold-pressed juices to even more people in the 419. It's a match made in heaven, right? The revitalization of downtown parallels their exact core values and mission of supporting local. Their goal is to bring scratch made, local fare to our community by sourcing the best, locally produced and sustainable ingredients one can find in NW Ohio. At Fowl & Fodder, you'll know where your food came from, how it was produced, and the story behind its local label.

I went for the first time to the central ave location. Acoustics were awful. With dishes clanging and people talking, I could not hear the person across from me.
