Early this fall, a delegation including thirteen representatives from eight area firms took the new American Airlines’ nonstop service to Charlotte, North Carolina out of Toledo Express Airport for an intercity visit. The visit was organized by the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority, as an opportunity for our members to learn about the economic prosperity of Charlotte and generate new ideas for our area.
Charlotte was of particular interest for many reasons but most of all to showcase the new direct route from Toledo Express to Charlotte Douglas International Airport, which opens the business community in the Toledo Region to many exciting opportunities. The city was also chosen because of existing relationships between the Charlotte and Toledo Chambers of Commerce and between Toledo Region businesses with those in the Charlotte area. These relationships played a crucial role in securing the new route and this trip was the next step in strengthening those relationships and creating new ones.

In addition to touring Packard Place, the Toledo delegation enjoyed a reception at the Charlotte office of Shumaker, Loop and Kendrick LLP, and toured the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, Foundation for the Carolinas, and Charlotte Center City. This was an opportunity for our leaders to learn about the economic revitalization that Charlotte is experiencing, share best practices in areas of community development, and build relationships between our two regions. The delegation included representatives from the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce, Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority, Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick LLP, Buckeye Broadband, Palmer Energy, Toledo Community Foundation, Findley Davies and Regional Growth Partnership.
American Airlines’ new nonstop service to Charlotte, North Carolina out of Toledo Express Airport launched on August 22, 2017. A multitude of new domestic and international destinations, specifically over 100 domestic, 22 Caribbean and 6 European destinations, will now be accessible from Toledo as a result of this service. The addition of the new Charlotte route is anticipated to increase passenger service at Toledo Express Airport by as much as 30 percent annually.
The business community in Toledo played a large role in attracting American Airlines to the Toledo Market.
