This year, #GivingTuesdayNWO is on November 28, 2017. For the second year in a row, Toledo Community Foundation and The Blade have partnered to make a matching grant opportunity available to any eligible local participating nonprofit organization and one $5,000 award to one area nonprofit organization who participates in #GivingTuesdayNWO. More information can be found on the TCF website.
“Toledo Community Foundation and The Blade have partnered to support local nonprofits in this effort by promoting the program and encouraging donations. Every contribution absolutely makes a difference! And we encourage everyone to please consider a #GivingTuesday contribution to the nonprofit organization that you believe in.”
- Keith Burwell, President of Toledo Community Foundation.

Check out the list of eligible northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan nonprofits participating in #GivingTuesdayNWO. The list will be updated weekly until November 27th.
Take advantage of opportunities to support some of our Chamber Member nonprofits, including SeaGate Food Bank, ProMedica Foundation, Lott Industries, Sauder Village and the YWCA. Details on their specific initiatives are outlined below.
SeaGate Food Bank
Toledo’s SeaGate Food Bank encourages you to support their “FREIGHT FUND” on GIVING TUESDAY with a tax-deductible gift of $25, $50 or more.
What is the Freight Fund? Good question. Area food producers regularly donate “truckloads” of canned goods, cereals, produce, etc., but SeaGate Food Bank must arrange transportation. That means SFB has to hire freight companies to pick up and deliver the donated goods to our 85,000-sq. ft. warehouse, cooler and distribution center. It costs $475 to $550 per load, but each load is about 40,000 pounds of food we can distribute.
SeaGate Food Bank needs to raise $10,000 – which translates into about 800,000 pounds of food. (FYI, we distribute over 15 million pounds each year at no charge!) To Donate, simply go to SeaGateFoodBank.org and click on “Donate”. Or send a check to: SeaGate Food Bank, 526 High Street, Toledo OH 43609. Your gift is tax-deductible and you will get a receipt.
Poverty and hunger are major challenges for our community. One in 5 children and one in 7 adults are living “food insecure” lives. Each month, SFB distributes food entirely free of charge to 428 food pantries in NW Ohio, serving over 130,000 people. We do this with a fulltime staff of only ten, but thousands of volunteers. Thank you for your support!
YWCA
The YWCA is coordinating its annual fund appeal – It Depends on You, which targets the YWCA’s friends and workplace colleagues.
ProMedica Foundation
So many Toledo Children’s Hospital patients are in the hospital for weeks, even months. Life (and fun) shouldn’t be put on hold in the hospital, which is where Child Life comes in. This program supports children and families coping with the emotional impact of childhood illness.
Child Life services include: educational therapy and tutoring; bedside play; therapeutic arts and crafts, like journaling, scrapbooking, story time and puppet theatre; music, play and pet therapy and diversion and coping strategies during treatment. Through Child Life, children are provided with the opportunity to play, develop and learn.
This year, ProMedica’s Giving Tuesday campaign will make a direct impact on Child Life at Toledo Children’s Hospital. Please join them by making a donation at giving.promedica.org/givingtuesday and encouraging others to donate on November 28.
