Our company name, Hale Performance Coatings, Inc. was derived from a change by necessity from our original 1929 name, Hale Chrome Service. Our business has nothing to do with what most think of when they hear the word “chrome”; a shiny decorative finish (car parts). Hale was probably one of about five industrial coaters serving the tool and die industry in the Toledo area. Over the years, the others ceased to operate due to meeting new environmental standards, maybe no transition planning, and of course, the “streamlining” of our manufacturing economy, as it was called in the 1970’s and 1980’s.
All manufacturing downsized in the NW Ohio region and the Hale team instead rebelled and began building to handle large capacity molds for building fiberglass composite automotive body panels. We are doing the heavy lifting for specialty machine components up to 30 tons in weight with single parts brought in by flatbed semi-trucks.
Many shop managers saw the roads leading south taking opportunities with them. In keeping our business plan to the simplest form, our logic was; The Highways Look to Us like They Run Both Directions. Why can’t they bring work into the NW Ohio, preferably the Toledo Market?
Location, location, location, Toledo…the American Midwest's Best Kept Secret. Again listening to customers opened the door to Nickel coated tooling and before we knew it we were and still are the finishers that have done the largest molds and specialty tooling worldwide!
Now you can see why somewhere in the first decade of the new millennial it became necessary to scrub the Hale Chrome Service and along with our new managing ‘third generation’, change our name to match our new business diversity. Hale Performance Coatings, where we work towards a goal to make The Hale Group a One-Stop Finishing and Coating Business.
Wait a second, we are just beginning after 88 years young! Generation Three took on another building to our north, remodeled, upgraded everything in the facility, traveled east to Connecticut and purchased a 1.3 million dollar production Thermal Coating system with robots, software, and turn tables for indexing. It is now not inconceivable to service sources anywhere in the world. To our knowledge we are the only job work / production small business with this capacity. Our Thermal Coating has been operating for job work since 2015 and growing monthly.
Yes, we can go on but we would rather give tours of our operations and all our processing operations. We would like to show you how a business can grow, adjust to markets changing, meet all the regulations, support 85 employees, and most of all, bring work and jobs to Toledo with competitive wages, from entry level to highly skilled needs.
We have been a family business since Gordon Deye purchased the business from Phillip Hale, building our third generation. We are also watching and working with multiple generations of our family of employees. You know, you see that when you operate under the same roof for 88 years. We are a proud family business, supporting our employees and families of NW Ohio and the SE Michigan area.
