Summer is here and we couldn't be happier to see sunshine and excitement downtown and throughout the Toledo Region. But that's not all we're excited about this summer – the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Toledo Small Business Development Center welcome five summer interns to our team. These interns are providing incredible services to you, our Chamber member community, but until you can meet them in person at one of our fabulous upcoming events, please enjoy this Q&A to get to know a little bit about our interns.

Intern, Small Business Development Center

Where are you from?
Van Buren, Ohio

What school did you attend, and what did you study?
I received my undergraduate degree in marketing from Bowling Green State University and I will be returning to BG in the fall to start my MBA program.

What about this internship piqued your interest?
What piqued my interest about this internship is that it allows me to see and interact with every facet of business. From the mom and pop shop to the multi-million dollar company, the Chamber has given me the opportunity to work with all kinds of people and businesses and I really have enjoyed that so far.

What do you hope to learn and do during this internship?
During my internship, I hope to learn more about the Toledo area and the many organizations that reside in this area. I hope I am able to understand their practices and then help them improve those practices in any way I can.

What accomplishment – as a student, as a professional and/or in your personal life – are you most proud of?
Graduating from undergrad.

What is your favorite thing about the Toledo Region?
As a sports fan, I love that we have two professional minor league teams in Toledo. It always makes for a fun night out when you're at a Mud Hens or Walleye game.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself.
One fun fact about me is that I enjoy writing songs, playing the guitar and singing.

Where are you from?
I’m from a city in Michigan called Rochester Hills, which is about 45 minutes from the city of Detroit and about an hour and a half from Toledo.

What school are you attending, and what are you studying?
I’m currently at the University of Toledo studying Supply Chain Management with a minor in International Business.

What about this internship piqued your interest?
What do you hope to learn and do during this internship?

I was told about this internship a week before the summer from a previous intern that worked at the Chamber prior to me. What I hope to learn and do during this internship is network with businesses and, hopefully, I can learn more about supply chain management and make more connections in that field.

What accomplishment – as a student, as a professional and/or in your personal life – are you most proud of?
The biggest accomplishment that I have achieved as a student is becoming the President of Student of African American Brotherhood, or SAAB, whose main focus is on the African American male population having a higher graduation rate from the University of Toledo.

What is your favorite thing about working at the Chamber?
My favorite thing about the Chamber is learning about small businesses and how they are running and being successful.

What interested me most in this internship is how people-oriented the Chamber is. Being in accounting, it is mostly get your work done and go home, but I felt like this place would be more people-oriented and I could meet some nice people here.

As well as learning the accounting portion of this job, I would like to get to know what the Chamber is all about and in what ways we are we helping the community.

One of my most accomplishing moments in my life was when I lost over 100 pounds. The amount of discipline and hard work I put into weight loss was so challenging, but in the end, it was all worth it. One thing it taught me in life was that nothing was impossible.
