Coyle Funeral Home has been providing healing funeral services to the Toledo Region for nearly 130 years. The family owned funeral home has been owned and operated by five generations of Coyle’s. Most recent to carry on the family legacy is Megan Coyle-Stamos, who bought the business in 2012.
Megan’s great-great grandfather started the Coyle legacy in 1888. He was a brick layer and a mason who was very involved in helping migrant Hispanic workers in the area. He saw a need for comfort and healing services and opened the first Coyle Funeral Home on Broadway in South Toledo near the high-level bridge.

A graduate of Indiana University with a bachelors in fashion design and business management, Megan never imagined she would become the sole proprietor of Coyle Funeral Home. She recalls working with her siblings at the funeral home growing up, in a role they self-titled, “Garage People”. They would clean the facilities and help to provide services to clients. Upon graduation, she moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, prepared to take on the fashion world with Parisian Department Stores.

While working in retail fashion industry, Megan felt the call to find a new challenge and make a big impact on the world around her. She became a pre-arrangement counselor with Trust 100 and worked for several family owned funeral homes in Detroit, Michigan and ultimately moved back to Toledo to begin her family for the affordability, amenities and proximity to relatives. In 2012 she bought the business and over the course of her career has won many national Preneed industry awards, including the locally prestigious 20 Under 40 award in 2011.

Megan brings a sense of calm and comfort to those around her. She believes in providing an honorable and healing way for families to say goodbye.
“There are no do-overs with a funeral. You have one time to have a meaningful funeral ceremony; you must do it right. It is a service and intimate business.” - Megan Coyle-Stamos

The entire staff at Coyle is committed to providing a healing sendoff for loved ones. They do a beautiful job of creating meaningful experiences. They offer many options and opportunities for families to choose from in creating a unique sendoff. Every family receives a tribute blanket woven with a photo of a loved one, shipped overnight so that it can be displayed during the visitation. Coyle has an arrangement conference room with a display of cremation and burial products to ease the decisions in a difficult time. They also have a number of memorial keepsake offerings, including jewelry, video montages, and blown glass made from the ashes of a loved one. Due to the enormous number of decisions involved with planning services, cremation and burial, Megan recommends that people consider pre-planning. “Pre-planning is important and a valuable way to prepare in order to relieve the emotional and financial stress placed on loved ones.” Megan can often be found in the community leading complimentary educational discussions about pre-planning with veterans, retirees, and other groups.

In order to offer a wealth of choices and a comforting experience, Coyle Funeral Home partners with many local vendors and businesses. They joined the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce more than 25 years ago and are also a part of the University of Toledo Family Business Center. For nearly the duration of their businesses, Coyle has relied on Florian Insurance, another five generation community business, to provide coverage. Coyle prides itself on honoring the fire, police and military veterans with special services, like the Last Alarm, 21 gun salute, and other fitting ceremonies.
