May is Military Appreciation Month, and the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce is celebrating and recognizing our active service and veteran members of the military by showcasing some of our military member business owners in the Toledo Region. Check out this Q&A with brothers Zachary Cheema and Shaun Cheema of Grand Aire, Inc. in Swanton.

How did your service prepare you to be a business owner?
ZC: Being able to adapt and work the problem with the team.
SC: Still serving, but inject pragmatic and merit-based decision making into the overall vector of the company.
ZC: Being able to adapt and work the problem with the team.
SC: A fresh-out-the-door vet, in my opinion, hasn't fully succumbed to the polarization that we see currently occurring in America. We have always taken an oath to the Constitution not to an individual. The Constitution: an idea, which has been practiced now for over 230 years. Everyone works towards that end-state, and when the direction goes away from that goal, it is questioned and corrected. This concept of an idea/goal can be instilled into a company, so the employees strive to meet that goal to better the company and, in turn, themselves. Service before self; the vet gets it. Many others, unfortunately we've seen in the past, do not, and have been let go.
Are there ways the region can better support veteran-owned businesses?
ZC: Yes, lower our tax rate.
What are some of your favorite things to do here in the Toledo Region?
ZC: Fly airplanes, cycle.
SC: Cruise the Maumee River and stop by downtown for some good eats.
