Ken Martin started Projects Designed and Built Inc. in 1998 out of his home with the help of a part time receptionist. Prior to that, Mr. Martin was working for a Toledo-based distributor selling industrial power transmission components, and, it was there he came up with the idea of starting the business. The idea came from an emerging trend he noticed while working with some of his large customers. Many of them began downsizing their engineering departments, outsourcing the design and build of new equipment and ultimately doing less ‘in house’ designing. That was the opportunity and the motivation for him to begin to design and build machinery that ultimately led to the business as it is today. It has been almost 20 years now and PD&B continues to be a trusted and reliable resource for their customers around the world.
Recently at PD&B, they've been able to disrupt the corrugated paper packaging automation market with a refined approach of robotic feeding of corrugated paper in to die cutters, printers and other equipment. On top of that, they've been conducting extensive R&D on a new type of material that has recently gained popularity within the aluminum micro-channel cutting market to ensure they continue delivering industry-leading technology to our customers around the world.
While building the business, Ken and the PD&B team have had the opportunity to serve customers not only all over the world, but many local customers as well. A few of the NW Ohio-based customers include Pro-Pak Industries, GT Technologies, Spartan Chemical, Owen's Illinois, and Sauder Woodworking. Besides building some of the highest quality automation equipment in the area, PD&B provides Christmas gifts for a family every year, strongly supports the Northwest Ohio Scholarship Fund and regularly participates in high school student shadow programs.
"We're proud to be part of Toledo and look forward to continue helping our customers provide safer, more efficient and meaningful work for their employees through automation. We pride ourselves on using as many local suppliers as possible and firmly believe, You will do better in Toledo!"
