Brief description of your business or organization:
We are a majority female team. We have a female CEO and also all female board members. We work inside several different areas of Toledo and provide therapy and case management services to children 4 through age 22.
Were you born/raised in the Toledo Region? If so, where? If not, where and why/when did you move to the area?
Grew up in Cleveland and moved to Toledo Region. Our supervisor, Ms. Jennifer, was born and raised in Toledo as well as several staff members are from Toledo.
When did you launch your first business, and how did you get to where you are today?
We have been around for about eight years. This business started as a one-woman show and has grown into 20-plus employees and we have over 365 clients.
What does Women’s History Month mean to you?
We at ASB celebrate and recognize this month to honor our staff.
What do you like most about your job?
We like working with children and youth. We also like to see the results of overcoming and working thru difficult situations.
It is hard to hear stories of abuse and trauma and your heart breaks for the children.
Major accomplishment(s) that make(s) you proud?
We are in 10 schools and provide services to these children. We also work year-round with the youth in our program and also have partnered with the end of the day donation with Panera Bread, which helps to provide end-of-the-day donations of baked goods to our needy families once a week.
What are the benefits and struggles of owning a business in the Toledo Region?
Learning all the important paperwork and handling all the diverse issues that come with running a company. Also issues with COVID and doing changes that came with those issues.
